Going for Pink

I picked up this peace of fabric at a thrift shop for less than $2 and decided to use it as a part of this month's collection. Well, this is not pink, but peach and it's added a flare to my wardrobe for this month of BC Awareness. The top has been worn with black slacks and a black jacket.

Pattern: Simplicity 8523 view A sleeveless top

The jacket has been worn with black slacks, black top, and the peach jacket.
Pattern: Simplicity 1699 Jacket

This will not happen again with this top. I had marked the length and cut into the fabric in the wrong area which led to a shorter length. I did consider adding to the length which would give the top some additional lines, but skipped on the idea. Don't you know I took the time to correctly adjust the pattern with the added the paper taped into position. This error also led to a shorter blouse than I had planned.

Hair: Two-strand twist out on shampooed and blow dried hair for date night at the college for jazz entertainment.

These buttons were thrifted for $0.20 the weekend before making the jacket. Once I started looking through my buttons for a match, I realized that they were perfect.

Fabric: antique golden sateen stretch cotton and polyester leopard print

Sizes: 8-24

Alterations: Added 4" to the length and decreased the neck to waist length by 1".

This is a lovely pattern and good for my body type. It will look a lot better with a really good pressing.
I think it looks like the pattern. It is a easy pattern to make and I highly recommend it.

This dress gives me another completed outfit. Wow! This is so much fun.

So, it has the perfect pattern and colors

Pattern: Butterick 5982 MISSES'/MISSES' PETITE DRESS AND BELT: Dress has close-fitting, lined bodice, side front seams, pleated and gathered skirt, back zipper, and belt with bow, knot and Velcro® closing. A/B, C D cup sizes.
Okay, this is a shower curtain that includes the bronze that matches my shoes and purse. It's a little hard for me to leave this pattern as it is fitting perfectly into my life right now.

Why am I feeling as if these Spring outfits should have been completed and that I should not be rushing to add to my wardrobe. Yes, I make a lot of church outfits, but I do need some casual outfit to wear on dates with the hubby.
Simplicity 1699  Jacket revisited in cotton sateen. I have enough fabric left for a dress or pants.

Last of the coordinates

Pattern: Simplicity 1699  Unlined Jacket

Pattern Sizing: 8-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I dislike the pleats on the shoulders.

Fabric Used: Scuba wrinkle-free polyester stretch knit. It's a more stable knit. It actually feels rubbery. You can't iron it unless you use a pressing cloth.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The sleeve cap was adjusted to remove the pleats. The back was cut on the fold to remove the back seam. Now, I don't think I should have done that since the dress and pants have a back seam. It's perfectly fine that I did it, but that seam is what pulls everything together as a complete set.

Would you sew it again? Yes

Would you recommend it to others? Yes

Conclusion: The jacket is a quick jacket for the changing weather. This is such an easy pattern that one could make with short sleeves or a shorter or longer version. It's a real go-to pattern.

Simplicity 1699 basic Dress

Pattern Description: Simplicity 1699 dress; Pattern includes top, jacket and pants

Pattern Sizing: 5-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, with exception of the 5" border that was added to hemline.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the princess lines and it is ok that there is a front seam.

Fabric Used: Scuba wrinkle free double knit from Fabric Mart

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: A border of 5 inches was added for additional length and a decrease of 1" sway back alteration. It looks perfect in the back, but I would like to add additional  inches to the front to meet my waist.

Would you sew it again? Yes Would you recommend it to others? Yes

Conclusion: I did go back and add the additional 5 inches to the length of the pattern because I like the dress so much. The little curved v is really eye catching on the sleeves. As much as I wanted to embellish this dress and the jacket, I really need a basic black dress to wear with several jackets that are in my closet.

Black Pants

Simplicity 1699 Misses' & Miss Petite Sportswear Line Drawing
Sizes include 8-24

Simplicity 1699 pant in black scuba knit from Fabric Mart.

Alterations included using a pair of RTW pants to adjust the bottom width.

This pant pattern is a keeper because the stride is just right for me. I'm wearing the top from this pattern with the pant.  They look a little long, but the shoes were flats. One inch shoes look better.

The dress and jacket will be featured soon!

Peplum Top

Simplicity 1699 includes the peplum top, dress, jacket and pants and I'm making each piece in this black scuba fabric from Fabric Mart.
An invisible zipper with a hook and eye adorns the back of this top.
Adjustment of one inch was made at the waistline which looks fine in the back but not the front so I'll not do the adjustment the next time I cut this pattern. I really like each item that's included with this pattern.
While on vacation I went into a store that had this top in the same fabric in blue, green and black. Guess what? I was able to get this same fabric from the same company on sale in purple. I ordered 6 yards.
In between my challenge sewing I'll post the other coordinates from this pattern.

Completed Fearless February Outfit

Dress: Vogue 1369 is made using white stretch gabardine fabric and polyester lining purchased from Hancock Fabrics.
I didn't have stay tape so I used twill tape around the armholes and the neckline. It was a little wide, but I was afraid to cut it.
An invisible zipper was inserted.
10 1/2 inches was added to the dress length.
First, the back doesn't look like the pattern below the zipper.
Next, I was very upset at the ripples below the hips on both sides and decided that I hated stretch gabardine. So I made another dress of ITY knit to go with the jacket and the same thing happened. I was afraid to press both of them because I thought maybe it came from the iron knowing that I don't rub my fabrics with the iron.
Note: After completing the second dress, in the daylight it didn't match the jacket, but it gives me two different style dresses to wear with the white cardigan that was previously made of the same fabric.
Then, I decided that I had no choice but to try pressing and see what happens. It worked on the ITY dress. (I'll show that one) So, I pressed this dress and look at the difference. All ripples are gone, but it made me very nervous about the idea of purchasing stretch gabardine.
Now, let me show you this beautiful dress. I love it, even if I will not wear it without the jacket.
Jacket: Simplicity 1699
Fabric: White stretch gabardine with polyester lining.
An additional 5 1/2 inches was added to the jacket length.
Beads, ribbon, lace applique embellishes the jacket.
The center front has a hook and eye for closure.

All of the ripples/bubbling disappeared after pressing. Thank goodness! I thought the whole outfit was ruined.

McCall's 8021 Sleeveless Dress

Fabric: ITY knit
Lining: polyester
I used fusible interfacing for reinforcement as stay tape around the neckline and both armholes.
The neckline was raised 2 1/2 inches and the length was extended by 10 inches.  As I mentioned, it had the bubbling in the back, but they pressed out nicely.
