SarahLizSewStyle: Make a Garment A Month Challenge Starts October

Misook Black+Blue Jacket/Cardigan www.nataliedress.net

While snooping on the internet, I spotted this color block jacket which will be my inspiration. The fabric will be a teal polyester with brown polyester poplin trim. The patterns of choice is Simplicity 2474 with a sleeveless dress from Simplicity 5190.

Paint Splash Jacket

Pattern Description: Simplicity 1699 is a lined jacket with front darts and pleats in the top of the
sleeves.

Pattern Sizing: 8-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I dislike the pleats on the shoulders.

Fabric Used: Cotton/Lycra

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The fronts are lined with the same fabric, so as to have the same look when opened. After wearing it, the pleats were removed as I should have done before completing the jacket. What made me think I would like them? I already knew I didn't.

Would you sew it again? Yes Would you recommend it to others? Yes

Conclusion: The jacket is a quick jacket for the changing weather.

Swirled Jacket

Pattern Description:  McCall's 7109 is an out of print pattern that has a front buttoned princess seamed jacket with long or short sleeves and scalloped detail. There are two 7/8" buttons on each of the sleeves.

Pattern Sizing: 8-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? After putting the  instructions down, I couldn't find them until I had finished. It had fallen between the footboard and the hope chest.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It was the jacket that drew me to this pattern. Specifically,  the neckline, buttons on the outer sleeves, and the scallop bottom of the jacket. Years ago, I purchased a cream, textured double knit suit just like it and I'm still wearing it.

Fabric Used: Crème/Black ITY knit from Fabric Mart

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Lined the front and upper back with the same fabric and raised the neckline one inch.

Would you sew it again? Yes Would you recommend it to others? Yes

Conclusion: In my closet is a black princess skirt that is a stand-alone piece that warranted the need to use this fabric as a jacket instead of sewing a dress. It can be worn with my sleeveless black dress or a red dress. The next jacket will lengthened about three inches and the neckline will be raised at least two inches. I can't wait to make the slim skirt suit in a solid fabric.

Another White Dress

Pattern Description: McCall's 3129 dress has princess seams, neckline variations , sleeveless or short sleeves, and back zipper closure. This one has a square neck and is sleeveless.

Pattern Sizing: 8-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It was very easy and the shaping is nice.

Fabric Used: ITY knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The dress was shortened by 11 inches and the zipper was omitted.

Would you sew it again?  yes Would you recommend it to others? Yes

Conclusion: The cardigan is Simplicity 1961. It was made a few months ago, along with a sleeveless tank. Alterations were made to the bottom front by omitting the points and cutting straight across the hemline.

Leopard patchwork skirt

Interestingly enough, this skirt was made by taking the waist, hip, and length measurements. The polyester ITY knit was purchased from Fabric Mart a couple of years ago. Polyester lining was inserted along with elastic in the waist.
