A Little Red for a Special Month!

Pattern Description: Simplicity 7100 suit has semi-fitted jacket and slim skirt. Jacket has asymmetric front buttons with shaped lower edge.

Of course, I wanted to look like a sweet heart the day after Valentine's so I was prepared.

This is a very special OOP pattern that I purchased for about 20 cents. I didn't want to pass up this pattern just because it wasn't my size.

Therefore there were several alterations to the pattern. One was lowering the sleeve cap to remove the gathers. Then it was time to insert three inches of paper to lengthen the jacket. The lining was an addition to the skirt and jacket. Adjustments were made to the bust, waist, and hips of both the jacket and skirt.

Sizes: 6 - 24

Fabric: Red crepe from the same consignment shop totaling $3. Dark maroon polyester lining was used for the jacket and skirt.

Covered buttons was the last choice. I originally purchased some beautiful glittery black with silver trim buttons.

I did see a longer version of the jacket in the Spring collection. I use a lot of polyester poplin for my suits, but this heavier crepe is really nice.

Loose Top vs Curly Top

While hubby was enjoying the car show, I was enjoying the venders. I picked up this piece of taupe sweater knit for $3. It was just enough for Butterick 5714 view C. It's loose fitting with elasticized seams and waist.

Fabric Used: Taupe Sweater Knit and a metal clasp was used instead of a button.

The directions were easy to follow. This is a very simple item to make. No alterations were made.

 Sizing: XS - XXL

I was dressed for our small town's first Jazz Festival. This little sweater was just right for the weather, but the evening chill required a jacket. I've completed view B and C and like both. I do plan to complete items D & E. I highly recommend this pattern because each jacket can be made for casual or dressy wear.

Curly Top - I used Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk on damp hair with two-strand twists.

It's a Croc!

Pattern: McCall's 5987 unlined coat with attached "scarf" collar, two-piece sleeves and pockets. I works best with double sided fabric.

 Sizing: 8-22

Fabric: Chocolate Crocodile Embossed Polyester/Lycra Velour from Fabric Mart

Alterations: The scarf was folded together at the end and turned for a finished look. It has serged fronts and bottom.

Hat: Simplicity 4025 completed using serger.

This is an exciting coat. My girlfriend's eyes lit up when I entered the room. She loved it. It is one of my favorites and I don't know why it took so many years for me to make it. Yes, I'm willing to allow another into my life.

Life is much more fun with a sewing machine and a little bit of creativity!
