It's Party Time!

Pattern: Simplicity 8610 Misses/Miss petite dress with pleated or flared flounce. This is view B without collar. This pattern copyrighted in 1993 and purchased from a local thrift shop.
Sizes: 8-24 This pattern include sizes 14-16.

The clutch is another placemat with a beautiful embroidered design.
Fabric: Crepe back satin & silk organza purchased during my travels from Walmart. I used the crepe side for my dress and the satin side for hers.

Alterations: This pattern was a size 14-18 so I had to use a TNT pattern (Simplicity 8523) jhto increase the pattern. Added 4 inches to the hemline of the bodice, inches to the flounce to equal the width of the bodice front and back, and used the TNT for the sleeves.

The pleated bottom dress really appeals to me. I'm sure you understand the list of wants that grows longer and longer each day. Maybe that's what we all enjoy about this adventure. Every day there's something that triggers the eye.

This was a last minute decision after knowing about this event for over two months. Therefore these were some quick sew items. It worked as we entered the event over and hour and a half late due to miscommunication. This time it was good to be late as the littlest one couldn't have taken the whole event without becoming even more uncomfortable.

McCall's 6276 Children's and girl's tops, dresses, skirts and leggings. This is dress C with alterations which include a center seam in the bottom front and a zipper since this pattern for stretch fabric.

Fabric: Stripped polyester
Notions: Red Zipper and thread
Did it look like the pattern: Yes
Alterations: I took the pattern to be just as described in the bodice length. Apparently, it was about 4" shorter than expected so adjustments were made.

Black History Month

This outfit is for Miss Yas to wear when her choir sings this month. I took another caftan and used it to make McCall's 4554. I placed the front top in the center for the embellishment. It does have a back zipper since I used cotton fabric.
Last year's dress was purple and I positioned the gold around the skirt hemline. This time it is on the sleeves. The hat has to be adjusted using Velcro.

McCall's 5742 dress is made using beige brocade.

Instead of gathers, pleats were formed on the back and front for a different look. Every scrap of fabric was used, so there wasn't enough to cut the sleeve bands as wide as the pattern required. Leaving the sleeve band off and allowing it to become flared sleeves would have given the dress a completely different look.

Purple Grape

Simplicity 4384 dress created for the granddaughter using Purple Polyester Poplin fabric with a purple zipper.

Simplicity 4384It's a very quick and easy dress that I'd love to make again. There were no alterations. I haven't made any of the other items, but I would recommend this pattern because of the cute combinations.

Christmas Dress

Pattern: McCall's 5742 Long and Short sleeve Dresses
Dresses A, B, C have lined bodice, self-faced band, gathered skirt, raglan sleeve variations, back zipper, purchased trims and built-in petticoat with tulle ruffle; dress A has elbow length gathered sleeves with sleeve band, self-fabric flowers and decorations; dress B has sleeves with elastic casing, contrast ruffle, ribbon trim and ribbon bow; dress C has sleeves with elastic casing and lace trim; all view lengths are mid-knee, not including lace trim for dress C.
Fabric: Red & Black Satin
Notions: Red Zipper and I covered some cord to insert in the front upper bodice.
Did it look like the pattern: Yes
Alterations: None, but should have been. I took the pattern to be just as described in the bodice length. Apparently, it was about 4" shorter than expected. I thought the dress was going to be about 3-4 inches below the knees and it was at knee length.
The dress isn't lines because of this:
Yes, I decided to make a crinoline for a first grader that's as tall as a third grader. She said by show of hands at her side -- meaning it's too wide. Well, so what, the bodice is to short and I don't like the length. It will look fine with her tights.
