Pattern Description: Simplicity 1699 dress; Pattern includes top, jacket and pants
Pattern Sizing: 5-24
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, with exception of the 5" border that was added to hemline.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the princess lines and it is ok that there is a front seam.
Fabric Used: Scuba wrinkle free double knit from Fabric Mart
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: A border of 5 inches was added for additional length and a decrease of 1" sway back alteration. It looks perfect in the back, but I would like to add additional inches to the front to meet my waist.
Would you sew it again? Yes Would you recommend it to others? Yes
Conclusion: I did go back and add the additional 5 inches to the length of the pattern because I like the dress so much. The little curved v is really eye catching on the sleeves. As much as I wanted to embellish this dress and the jacket, I really need a basic black dress to wear with several jackets that are in my closet.

ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely dress. How did you like sewing with scuba knit? I've seen it before and wondered how it felt/sewed.
Thanks! The scuba knit is a wrinkle free knit that's easy to sew and it's durable. After sewing with this I started checking for more and did get a purple on sale.

DeleteVery nice. This definitely works for a basic black dress. I purchased this pattern for the peplum blouse and never even noticed that cute little sleeve on the dress. I will definitely be making this dress.

DeleteLooks great on you. Thanks for sharing. Nice to see it on a normal person instead of a stick insect!
