Not All White
Butterick 5190 loose-fitting, unlined jacket has dropped shoulders and stitched hem.
These are the pants from Vogue 8886 from this previous post. The top is Simplicity 1961. I didn't take pictures in my church all white this time. I wouldn't wear this jacket with casual wear because the fabric is so delicate, dainty, and just plain lovely.
I saw this jacket here.
I only wear this jacket with dresses or with pants as worn on the pattern here.
Fabric: 1 yard of White Embroidered Chiffon Ribbon purchased from Joann Fabrics using my 60% coupon. Polyester lining from Vogue Fabrics.
Sizes: 8 - 24
Alterations: Added lining, snap, and ribbon on right side of jacket at center.
Polyester lining was added by cutting the lining fabric using the same pattern pieces.
This is an easy pattern. It's one of my favorites.

Spot On Fabric
Pattern Description: Butterick 5190 is a sleeveless dress, top, jacket, and pant pattern.
Pattern Sizing: 8-24
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were finished sewing it? Yes, but with sleeves.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love this pattern because it doesn't require a lot of fabric and it is a very simple pattern. There is nothing that I dislike about it.
Fabric Used: ITY knit
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I goofed on the alterations and didn't alter the bodice. Sleeves from another Butterick pattern were used to winterize this dress.
Would you sew it again? Yes

Conclusion: Sometimes confusion sets in and this time I forgot to decrease the bodice to a size 14 which made the dress too large. We discussed wearing a jacket with it until we can exchange it for alterations. This is what happens when mom decides to sew across the state.

Strolling through the patterns, I spotted this Vogue 8825 with the model wearing a duplication of ITY fabric which I had purchased.
There is different wrap dress planned from the same fabric for another special person.

Summer Coordinates
Butterick 5190 is a super easy coordinates pattern that I've used for a few years. I needed a couple of jackets for my last weekend's trip to the deep South. The orange and royal blue fabrics were purchased from Vogue Fabrics last year. A few years ago I made this jacket at waist length which is exactly as it is on the pattern and wore them with long tank tops. I thought they were cute worn that way for my age/figure.
For these jackets additional length was added to each of the jackets so that they stopped at the hipline. In order to add an inch wide band to the orange jacket I cut a 2 1/2" strip of fabric that measures the length from the bottom of the top around the neck to the bottom of the opposite side. The strip was folded with the wrong sides together and pressed. Then the right side was pinned to the right side around the front of the jacket and stitched. Serge or ziz-zag the seam allowance.

Believe it or not, I fell in love with this what I call Aztec print when I saw it on Fabric Mart, but I started feeling as if it was a bit too much after looking at about four yards of it. I'm confessing that I really do love it and it work well with my pieces.

Here I am wearing my new trendy knit maxi dress with my jacket. A different look for me is the long brown aztec design earrings. I know I said that I was glad to complete stash-busting my trendy knit fabrics because it was something different for me and I wasn't a fan. Well, I have a different respect for this fabric after wearing this dress and one of the tops on my weekend trip/vacation. I love it! I had to iron it, but now that I am not on the clock it works. I carried one of the tops on a hanger and didn't have to press it.
This jacket's band measures 2 inches wide. The band strip was cut to measure 4 1/2 inches wide and completed using the instructions for the orange jacket above.
Yes, this is the same print as the maxi dress. I decided that I could make a top that would match my tan and brown pants. I could use the orange jacket to complete an outfit. Hanging in the closet is a brown and a tan button-up shirt that could be worn as jackets.
The black strip is a piece of interfacing that was pressed onto the wrong side of the neckline and the armholes of the top. Then the fabric was turned and pressed before the hem stitching. I don't know if it is worth it, but the idea behind it was to insert the interfacing to reduce stretching. It makes me feel as if I took some extra effort on this effortless top.

A Touch of Leopard
Butterick 5190
Pattern Description: Misses, Jacket, Top, Dress, Skirt, PantPattern Sizing: 16-24
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes,except for alterations.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like that the pattern is versitile.
Fabric Used: Fabric with spandex perchased from Walmart about four years ago at $1 per yard. The leopard was a remnant. Lining purchased from Vogue Fabrics online.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Trim was added to the the front of the shirt.
Trim was added to both side-fronts and sleeves of the jacket. The front of the jacket was lined with the same fabric as the jacket. The back inside of the jacket was lined with 100% polyester lining.
The skirt was cut from the pants that had been originally cut by the same patten. I took a chance, evened up the pant pieces, cut them to 30 inches in length, cut four 3" bands sewed them together, top-stitched each on both sides of the seams, added elastic from back to sides on each side of the lap zipper, and completed the finishing work.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, this is a pattern that can transition into various outfits.
Conclusion: After reading an article in Threads about slowing down and adding emblishments to your objects, I was happy to have this opportunity to complete my works in progress. Originally, I had cut this three piece outfit in all it's simplicity as a $5 outfit. With the changes, the jacket has such a wonderful silky feel and heavy quality that it felt too dressy to wear with pants. That's when I decided to try changing the pants to a skirt.

Inspire Me!
Inspiration from http://www.style.com

Pattern Sizing: 16-24
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? No, due to alterations.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like that it is versitile.
Fabric Used: Polyester/Lycra Flora Medallions, Black, White 60" wide from Fabric Mart.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added 4" to length, and sleeves.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I will sew it again, and Yes I do recommend it to others. I made another out of ITY Knit Marble Print blue, aqua, and lime.
Conclusion: This dress was inspired from a dress off the runway of Style.com. It took a while to put together with adding the borders to the sleeve, hem, and neckline. It has a black X in the back which mirrors the front. I wore it today, which was our first wendy and chilly day. It was a very comfortable dress.
Changes and More Changes!
Simplicity 4025 style D (burgundy) is a very easy pattern. Although the pattern called for fleece, I really liked the back rounded collar. The fabric is a poly blend faille knit that feels like a sweater knit.
Yes, it started out as a sleeveless dress. Then, I decided to add sleeves. When I tried it on the shoulders were too wide, so I had to remove the sleeves and repair them. Then, the bright idea hit me to try the jacket over it to see if it would be too much together, and Wa! La! La! I liked it so now I have an outfit and guess what??? I'm thinking of shortening the sleeves so I don't pass out in it. We'll see where that goes.
Jacket was made to wear with black pants and other separates until Butterick 5190 dress came along.
