Happy Holidays!

It's such a wonderful time for spending time with family and friends. I'll have to admit that life has been very different without my computer. I'm really missing posting and viewing your posts on a full screen.
While things are a little different without the computer, I'm doing some sewing for family and friends. A little mending, a couple of skirts for a friend, a 1970's outfit which consists of a pair wide-legged pants and a long top, and making panties.
Speaking of panties; During a discussion with a plus size friend the problem of RTW panties not covering the extra stomach of much larger women came up. So, I've been creating Muslims and the second pair fit.
I'm curious about this issue and would love to hear your thoughts. It really does appear to be a serious problem when one thinks of the discomfort that some have from improper fitting garments. I'll suggest helping your friends and family by using your sewing machine.

Pink Till the End

Pattern: Simplicity 8523 view D short sleeve blouse

I'm ending the month with a spotted pink, black, white simple top. This is it for the pink month. My hopes are that each male and female completed a self exam and those annual exams were scheduled for this year.

Fabric: Multi print ITY
Interfacing: Fusible
Alterations: A little length was added.

Going for Pink

I picked up this peace of fabric at a thrift shop for less than $2 and decided to use it as a part of this month's collection. Well, this is not pink, but peach and it's added a flare to my wardrobe for this month of BC Awareness. The top has been worn with black slacks and a black jacket.

Pattern: Simplicity 8523 view A sleeveless top

The jacket has been worn with black slacks, black top, and the peach jacket.
Pattern: Simplicity 1699 Jacket

This will not happen again with this top. I had marked the length and cut into the fabric in the wrong area which led to a shorter length. I did consider adding to the length which would give the top some additional lines, but skipped on the idea. Don't you know I took the time to correctly adjust the pattern with the added the paper taped into position. This error also led to a shorter blouse than I had planned.

Hair: Two-strand twist out on shampooed and blow dried hair for date night at the college for jazz entertainment.

These buttons were thrifted for $0.20 the weekend before making the jacket. Once I started looking through my buttons for a match, I realized that they were perfect.

October MAGAM Completed

Pattern: Simplicity 7596 Misses' Top, pants, skirt, and shorts: Fitted top has princess seams, button front and V-neckline with optional contrast shaped collar. A and B have long sleeves, C and D have short sleeves. Pants A, skirt B, C, and shorts D have side zipper and waistband with elastic back casing. Skirt B, C has back vent.

 Sizes: 8 - 24

I know it is easier to use patterns that have already been altered, but I have so many patterns that I've purchased that I really would like to make. This is one of my recent purchases from a thrift shop. I love the curves in the collar, the v- neck, and the v points at the hem of the jacket.

Alterations: Removed 3" from the sleeve length
Removed 1" from the length to waist
Added 3" to all jacket bodice pieces for length
Removed 2" from neckline to decrease depth of v
                     Added 5" to skirt length
Omitted elastic in back of skirt

Crystal buttons with a pinkest tint purchased from JoAnn Fabrics.

I'm considering remaking this very soon.

Simplicity Misses Dresses 2404Line Drawing

Fabric: antique golden sateen stretch cotton and polyester leopard print

Sizes: 8-24

Alterations: Added 4" to the length and decreased the neck to waist length by 1".

This is a lovely pattern and good for my body type. It will look a lot better with a really good pressing.
I think it looks like the pattern. It is a easy pattern to make and I highly recommend it.

This dress gives me another completed outfit. Wow! This is so much fun.

Silver Crinkle Skirt

Pattern: Simplicity 2516 flounce skirt view E

Sizes: 8-24
Fabric: Silver Crinkle Polyester with polyester lining
Alterations: Added lining
Simplicity Misses Skirts 2516
The addition of the lining really gives this lightweight fabric a nice weight.

Maybe you remember this jacket which was worn with the royal blue dress. Well, now I have a complete outfit.

Jacket: Butterick 5714 view B with added ruffles http://sewingfunthings.blogspot.com/2014/04/dressed-for-wedding.html

Line Drawing

Yes, I'm loving this outfit. Of course the slanted cut of the sleeves are awesome. I can see adding several of these skirts to my wardrobe. It will be easier getting in an SUV than straight cut skirts with no stretch and don't forget coverage when in a seated position.

Pink and Grey Plans turned Grey

Pattern: OOP Simplicity 3505 Misses'/Miss Petite Dress or Top, Pants or shorts, Jacket. I've had this pattern for a few years.

Fabric: Grey Peachskin which is polyester, very soft, and silky.

Dress front has a yoke that I had planned to use pink silk, but it was too thin and didn't look just right after pressing the interfacing to the fabric. It also has darts that are formed from the armhole edge stitched in a downward position and a center pleat. The back of the dress has tucks instead of darts and a vent at the hemline which I normally refer to as a kick pleat.

For those of you who still have a flattering waistline a belt made of the same fabric would be complimentary.

Alterations: Pockets were not added.

Jacket has front pleats beneath the bust point and a center back pleat.

Sewing with Peach skin requires a very sharp needle. One must test the stitches to avoid puckering. Hand sewing is also a slow process because of the tight weave of the fabric.

I really do like this pattern and would recommend it for it's versatility. I'm really interest in this pant pattern.

Jacket set

Pattern: Butterick 3030 view A; Loose-fitting, pullover top has neckline variations and cap sleeves, above-elbow sleeves with stitched hems, below-elbow or long
Ok, the color is very off, but I forgot to take a picture of me wearing the top and wanted to share the design.

 Pattern: Jacket Simplicity 2474
Fabric: Mauve Crepe De Chine with multi color polyester trim. This is a jacket pattern that has been made several time.

I cut this outfit last year during the Summer and finally got it completed. Normally, I have no UFO's so now I've taken care of this. It's good to save left over fabric. The trim is fabric that I previously lined another suit with. It worked perfectly.

Finally Pictures of White Pencil Skirt/Jacket

Buttterick 4747 white poplin pencil skirt & OOP McCall's 8021 Jacket
I finally wore both pieces and the skirt is a little shorter than I'd like for sitting on the front seat.
 Both pieces are fully lined.
The skirt still has the folds as the picture with the dress with the tucks. That's because I don't like close fitting skirts/dresses. Below the front fits perfectly and the tighter the fit the shorter it is when in a seated position.
I didn't make the lined lace tank, but considering adding a thicker lining as it's thin at the mid section.

August MAGAM Lavender Suit

Pattern: Simplicity 4014 unlined coat or jacket in two length and lined dress.

 Sizes: 10-28W

It looks like the pattern. I love the length of this jacket and the fit of the dress.

Fabric: Micro faille polyester blend fabric. Notice dimpled on left back skirt. Steam will leave a dent.

Adjustments: Removed 1" from back bodice length/swayback adjustment

Lavender polyester lining for dress makes this a heavy dress.

I also lined the sleeves of the jacket.

Accent: Lace

There are some adjustments that need to be made. Thank goodness for the jacket due to the low cut of the dress. It will have to be adjusted by at least 3" and the sleeves of the dress need to be wide.

Did you know that pastel lavender is also called mauve?
