A Burst of Spring!

Butterick 5147 Lifestyle Wardrobe Line Drawing
Yes! Another A-line Butterick 5147 dress with front and back darts and back zipper.
Let me tell you about this fabric; It was purchased as a polyester table cloth on sale for less than $3.
This is thinking outside of the box. It was poly and I love the print so, I went for it. You'll get to see a dress made out of this fabric for my granddaughter. The leopard print dress and the Valentine's dress that I made for my granddaughter were made from yes, tablet cloths. I purchased two of each color so I have enough to make items for myself.
Lining: lime green pongee polyester

Alterations: On the front neckline I had to make a dart-size adjustment to remove the fullness. The sleeve pattern from the jacket was used and adjusted to the shorter length. A 1" sway back adjustment  was needed. Of course, I had to lengthen it because my dresses need to be hemmed at 44" for full coverage.
There is something to be said about this traditional A-line dress. It's been around forever and it never goes out of style. This and the princess style are the basis of most styles be it dresses or jackets. Threads Magazine featured an article "Sew a Sheath Dress" in January 2014 featuring how to create a custom version of both dresses.
Most times I'll make this dress sleeveless if I'm wearing it as a dress/jacket set. Otherwise I kind of keep the arms hidden for church.

March MAGAM Complete

Pattern: Butterick 5147  Jacket and skirt E
Sizes: 8-24
Fabric Used: Jade green plain weave wool/polyester suiting 62w & polyester lining

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, with the exception of not having enough fabric to make the collar.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The collar was omitted, added 2 inches to the skirt length, and a 1 inch sway back adjustment.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like everything about this pattern. It has so much to offer. I'll have to admit that it's my favorite. The jacket with the collar is still on the list of must haves.

The red is cute, but the gold looks better with the buttons.
                                                    Completing the lining

Buttons were purchased from Hancock Fabric Savannah Georgia while on vacation. Was I surprised when the cashier keyed them in and found that they were on sale!

Ethnic Print ending BHM

Pattern Description: Butterick 5147

Pattern Sizing: 8-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, but with sleeves.

Were the instructions easy to follow? yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like that the jacket sleeves fit the dress perfectly.

Fabric Used: Teal ITY Multi Knit from Fabric Mart

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I removed one inch from the front neckline to remove gaping, removed one inch from the neck to waistline length, added four inches to the hem length, added sleeves using the jacket sleeve pattern, and made front and back facings about four inches deep.

Would you sew it again?  Yes, it's my TNT dress that work well when worn with jackets/cardigans.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I highly recommend it.

Conclusion: With this fabric, it looks a little big, but is as close as I need it without showing exactly how fine I am. The previous dress in the slinky knit (which was a more stable knit) was a closer fit.
