White Swing Jacket

Pattern Description: Simplicity A1490 (one easy project)

Pattern Sizing: XXS-XL

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
No
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like that it is a simple pattern.
I was very disappointed because I expected the front to be even in the front and not raised a little. I wanted it to look just like the pattern with a full swing. I just measured and it is exactly 4" shorter in the center front than the back.

Fabric Used: White Ponte Knit from Fabric Mart

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None

Would you sew it again?  Maybe, if I altered it and made the front even with the back
Would you recommend it to others? Yes, because of it's simplicity.

Conclusion: I just had a thought that I could cut the hemline to my satisfaction.

  1. Looks great ~ maybe you could just tack up the hem straight how you wish it to be, check it on you, before taking to it with the scissors. I know the look you are after, such a pity this pattern is different to the illustration, close, but just not the same ... J

  2. I can understand your disappointment Dorothy, but it is still a lovely top - put it away for 24 hours and view it with new eyes - it would be a pity not to wear it :)

  3. The image on the envelope makes it hard to see how the front should hang. I tried looking for line drawings, but can't find them online. Hopefully you will be able to alter the hemline as you suggested.

  4. You certainly have been busy. I can hardly keep up (smile). In spite of your disappointment I think that if you give it some time you'll work this one into your active wardrobe!

    1. I'm taking everyone's advice and still thinking on it. It is so neat that I almost hate to touch it. It's still a wearable piece, but.....
