Happy Holidays!

It's such a wonderful time for spending time with family and friends. I'll have to admit that life has been very different without my computer. I'm really missing posting and viewing your posts on a full screen.
While things are a little different without the computer, I'm doing some sewing for family and friends. A little mending, a couple of skirts for a friend, a 1970's outfit which consists of a pair wide-legged pants and a long top, and making panties.
Speaking of panties; During a discussion with a plus size friend the problem of RTW panties not covering the extra stomach of much larger women came up. So, I've been creating Muslims and the second pair fit.
I'm curious about this issue and would love to hear your thoughts. It really does appear to be a serious problem when one thinks of the discomfort that some have from improper fitting garments. I'll suggest helping your friends and family by using your sewing machine.

  1. Years ago, I purchased my panties from Lane Bryant. In my opinion, they were the best. Now their quality has changed and they no longer carry the style I wore. Lucky for me, I would stock up when they had sales so my panty drawer runneth over. However, they are wearing out and it's time to decide what to do. Full briefs that fully cover the belly are hard to find in plus sizes because most have a high cut leg. Coni Crawford has a pattern for panties that goes to 6x. I don't have it ( I am considering it though). She also has a pattern for panties that have a short leg. There are many panty tutorials and downloads online. Also Barbara Deckert has patterns for plus size shapewear and slips on her Craftsy and Etsy site. It is becoming a growing trend for sewists to make their own lingerie and I hear that panty sewing is easy. I think after the holidays, I will attempt to make my own. Please post your progress, I'd love to hear how you draft your muslins.

  2. We miss you too Dorothy. Life must be different, but maybe there is also more time for other things that are just as enjoyable. I hope so.

Yes, lots of clothes are ill fitting and uncomfortable- I'm small, and still don't like pants that sit across the tummy instead of above it.

  3. I love my "me made" panties. People who don't sew always think it is hysterical that someone makes their own undies. I like them because they don't move about and you don't get wedgies. Ever. My only suggestion is to use fabric with more lycra/spandex than store bought, that seems to work a little better. You have reminded me that I need to make some more. 8-)

Hope your computer is fixed soon. It seriously sucks when you don't have one.

    1. Thanks for the advice. Hubby went to check on the computer and found that the guy is out sick. He couldn't get the computer because it was connected to equipment.
