Swirled Jacket

Pattern Description:  McCall's 7109 is an out of print pattern that has a front buttoned princess seamed jacket with long or short sleeves and scalloped detail. There are two 7/8" buttons on each of the sleeves.

Pattern Sizing: 8-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? After putting the  instructions down, I couldn't find them until I had finished. It had fallen between the footboard and the hope chest.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It was the jacket that drew me to this pattern. Specifically,  the neckline, buttons on the outer sleeves, and the scallop bottom of the jacket. Years ago, I purchased a cream, textured double knit suit just like it and I'm still wearing it.

Fabric Used: Crème/Black ITY knit from Fabric Mart

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Lined the front and upper back with the same fabric and raised the neckline one inch.

Would you sew it again? Yes Would you recommend it to others? Yes

Conclusion: In my closet is a black princess skirt that is a stand-alone piece that warranted the need to use this fabric as a jacket instead of sewing a dress. It can be worn with my sleeveless black dress or a red dress. The next jacket will lengthened about three inches and the neckline will be raised at least two inches. I can't wait to make the slim skirt suit in a solid fabric.

Leopard patchwork skirt

Interestingly enough, this skirt was made by taking the waist, hip, and length measurements. The polyester ITY knit was purchased from Fabric Mart a couple of years ago. Polyester lining was inserted along with elastic in the waist.

Traditional Slimming Skirt

McCall's 7109 printed in 1994 is a slim skirt with soft front pleats, back zipper, and a kick pleat. Sizes range from 8-24.
The fabric is a polyester suiting that's a medium weight with a satin side and a matted side. Of course, I ordered it online from Fabric Mart.

Honestly, I do not know if this is what one calls crepe-back satin. If you know, please leave me a message. I used the matted side/not satin side. This is one of my favorite fabrics because it's thick enough that a slip is not needed.

This is the last of the three skirts that were made by this pattern for a family member. It has been completed for over a month.

Black/Blue/White Dress

Simplicity 2337 has five lovely styles and the sizes range from 4-20. View A was made of ITY knit from Fabric Mart. The dress was very easy to put together. I actually thought the fabric was a simple mixed print until I looked up and into the mirror and noticed that the fabric was actually in rows. This is the second time that I appreciated having my cutting area where I am standing vertically with the fabric laying so that the selvage vertically facing the mirror. It took me a couple of days to think about and cut this dress. Some pieces were cut single because I wanted to match everything.

My friend came by and tried on this dress and loved it. She doesn't have a flat stomach and she immediately noticed that her stomach was hidden. I didn't think to take a picture for posting. It was not made for her, but for my family member who is about eight inches taller, younger, and wears her dresses at knee length.

Another successful invisible zipper!

As for alterations: I decided to use the front and back pattern pieces and cut fabric to line the upper bodice instead of using the facing pieces.

I can't wait to see this in a solid fabric.
