August MAGAM Lavender Suit

Pattern: Simplicity 4014 unlined coat or jacket in two length and lined dress.

 Sizes: 10-28W

It looks like the pattern. I love the length of this jacket and the fit of the dress.

Fabric: Micro faille polyester blend fabric. Notice dimpled on left back skirt. Steam will leave a dent.

Adjustments: Removed 1" from back bodice length/swayback adjustment

Lavender polyester lining for dress makes this a heavy dress.

I also lined the sleeves of the jacket.

Accent: Lace

There are some adjustments that need to be made. Thank goodness for the jacket due to the low cut of the dress. It will have to be adjusted by at least 3" and the sleeves of the dress need to be wide.

Did you know that pastel lavender is also called mauve?

White Pencil Skirt

Pattern: Butterick 4747 skirt with back vent, zipper, and button.

Fabric: White polyester poplin from Vogue Fabrics online and white polyester lining. This time the lining was stitched all the way around the vent. Of course I had to watch an online video to prepare for the installation.

Four inches was added to the length of the skirt. All of the seams were sewn and then serged. There is nothing new about this pattern as it is a traditional skirt that's made using an OOP pattern.

The jacket is the one from the previous post using OOP pattern McCall's 8021. http://sewingfunthings.blogspot.com/2014/08/what-other-color-but-white.html

My brother had surgery on his finger therefore I do not have pictures wearing the skirt.

What Other Color but White?

Pattern: Simplicity 2256 Jacket with ruffles, pockets, back gathers and seam.

Now this is really made for my body!

Hat purchased from Burlington Coat Factory.

The tucks of the dress (Butterick 5947) are revealed better in this picture. I really need to revisit this

pattern with my copy paper and tracing wheel as her tucks are wider.https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8244853757221381044#editor/target=post;postID=3217480150489052927

Pattern: OOP McCall's 8021 unlined jacket purchased from a thrift shop. This is a nice pattern that can be shortened for different hem lengths or sleeve lengths.

One of the most helpful pieces of advice that has been taking from reading blogs is always locate the finished widths and lengths either on the back of the pattern or the front of the pattern piece. This pattern was completed in a size 16 instead of my normal 22 or 24 for that reason.

Polyester poplin fabric and polyester lining were used. The lining was cut by the jacket pieces with adding about an inch to the center back for ease.

The tucked dress will not be worn with this jacket as it's width is too wide. (See the difference in the fit with the Simplicity jacket above.)

Tuck Front Dress

Pattern: Butterick 5947 MISSES'/MISSES' PETITE DRESS AND BELT: Dress has fitted, lined bodice variations with back princess seams, semi-fitted skirt, back zipper and self belt. A: front tucks. B: side front button bodice. C: back slit. B and C: front princess seams.
Sizes: 8 - 24

 Line Art
Fabric: Polyester poplin from Vogue Fabric online and white polyester lining.

Accessories: This beautiful belt was purchased for less than $5 during my travels. The hat is from Burlington Coat Factory in Florida. It is ivory/white and I'll make an outfit to wear with it. I will not wear it with this.
I decided to save my invisible zipper since I will wear a jacket with this dress.

Alterations: Added 5 inches to the dress length.

This is a beautiful pattern. I did not like what I did to the front of the dress. The completed dress bodice width listed on the back of the envelope didn't work for me. It could use additional two inches to keep it from pulling across the front. Now, in all honesty as I mentioned above, it could have been what I did to the front of the dress.
If I did it again, I would use the tracing paper and wheel to ensure that all of the lines are straight.
All in all, I love the pattern and would highly recommend it.
I'm completing two jackets from this fabric to show with this dress.

Fun Finds!

Fun thrifting with a friend turned up these lovelies at a price of 20 cents each.

Surprisingly enough, there were multiple copies and multiple sizes of several patterns.

After looking all over the store, how surprising it was to locate the pattern stash section. It was more than expected and I was overjoyed!

There's nothing like a dear friend who drove from a distance to spend time and have an enjoyable day.

I couldn't pass up these Sag Harbor jackets and this much needed red top at $1 each.
